Car being winched onto the Green Recovery flatbed on the M4 hard shoulder at night

M4 & M5 motorway recovery

Motorway breakdowns are the ones that need sorting fastest. I run the M4 and M5 corridors daily — M32, M48, M49 and the main A-roads included.

What to do while you wait

  1. 1

    Get off the carriageway

Pull onto the hard shoulder or an emergency refuge area, as far left as you can.

  2. 2

Get out and behind the barrier

Leave via the passenger side, stand up the bank behind the barrier — never stay in the vehicle.

  3. 3

    Hazards and lights on

Hazard lights on at all times; sidelights too if it's dark or raining.

  4. 4

Call 999 if you're in a live lane

Smart motorway with no hard shoulder, or you can't get off — call 999 first, then me.

  5. 5

    Then call Green Recovery

Ring 07338 600719 with your junction number or marker post and I'll come to you.
